9-year-old Deyshawn hopes a family will quell his fears

By: Catie Beck

The climb was steep for 9-year-old Deyshawn. He loves to play sports, but climbing a rock wall was a bit different.

He did his best to climb as high as he could, but about half way through, his confidence level would start to fall.

"I think I might not be able to do it," he said.

As much as he wanted to reach the top, one thing seemed to stand in his way.

"I'm kind of scared," he said.

Fear would always seem to get in the way, and, like many other children who need families, Deyshawn's biggest fear is never finding one.

"I just don't like being without a family," he said.

I joined Deyshawn on the wall in hopes that not being alone anymore would help his fear of heights, and it was then he made his highest climb.

Deyshawn because of his fears, he worries he may not be adopted, but he's trying to get better so he will.

"I have some moments where I get mad and start crying and stuff, so I might not get adopted with those moments," he said.

He hopes that's not the case, and he hopes he'll get better, but all the while, he'll keep dreaming of what life with a family will look like.

"Like to be able to look outside the window and go outside and play," he said.

And have a home and open arms to come back to, where he never ever has to feel afraid. Deyshawn said he likes being on the go, especially if there are sports involved.

He hopes his forever family will have the energy to keep up and push him forward.
