Documentary celebrating lives of famous Texans
Cameras are rolling on a new documentary about the Texas State Cemetery. "The 150th year of the Texas State Cemetery" is designed to teach Texans about the final resting place for many Texas war heroes, state founders, judges, elected state officials and writers.
"It's a who's who of people who contributed a great deal to this state," said George Christian of the Texas State Cemetery Committee.
On Tuesday, the program's host and executive producer interviewed Former Texas First Lady Nellie Connally.
"I want to take part in anything that has something to do with Texas, you know that," Connally said. "And I think this cemetery is so beautiful now that it's been repaired and fixed, and we have some pretty neat Texans in the cemetery, and one I know is very special and that's John Connally."
After the interview, cameras capturing the documentary rolled as Connally placed flowers at her husband's grave.
A lot of Texans don't know about the site, but the producers of the documentary hope to change that.

"My primary focus for doing this is to increase the foot traffic here," said Glenn Bass, the project producer. "If we can make more people aware that it exists, where it is located, have them visit the Web site, then I will have succeeded."
The program celebrates the lives of the famous Texans through interviews with a dozen Texans who knew them, including former Gov. Ann Richards, former UT football coach Darrell Royal and former White House Press Secretary George Christian.
"You have to promote a place to attract attention and certainly the cemetery is not as famous as the State Capital Building or the Alamo, but it is getting there," said Bass.
The project is expected to be complete sometime in May and is intended to air statewide. Any profits will go to the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum Foundation and the Texas State Cemetery Foundation.
The Texas State Cemetery is located at 909 Navasota Street in Austin. You can find more information about the facility and the notable citizens buried there on their Web site.
