Acting Williamson County Sheriff Richard Elliott held a press conference to talk about the department's morale before Sheriff John Maspero's resignation.
Elliot said he's trying to build confidence within the sheriff's office and the community by putting patrols out on the streets. He said the mood is starting to recover after the controversy surrounding removed Maspero.
A judge suspended Maspero last week amid allegations his drinking posed problems for his job performance.
"I can assure you that the entire administrative staff has been meeting with me every day since this has transpired that everyone of us are fully dedicated to ensuring that we are not taking a step backwards. Williamson County is going to have the reputation of being tough on crime again and we're going to go forward and ensure that they get good services provided to them," Elliott said.
The sheriff's office is also looking to put a DWI taskforce in place early next year, he said. A new jail should also be up and running soon.
