KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- A former top Taliban commander was been killed in a shootout with Afghan forces.
Government and security officials told The Associated Press Hafiz Abdul Rahim was killed late Sunday in Kandahar province, along with other fighters.
The man was a police chief with the Taliban before the regime was ousted. He was also suspected of leading attacks against Afghani government troops in southern Afghanistan.
