It was lights, camera, action for many kids wanting to get a jumpstart in the movie business this weekend.
Cinemakids is a two-part program that includes screenings of films created by teenagers and a workshop for younger children.
The event took place at the University of Texas.
Cinemakids director Mary Kearney said the workshop is a great opportunity for kids inexperienced in basic filmmaking.
"Our culture is so saturated with visual imagery that it's really important they develop literacy with regards to visual media at a very young age," she said.
On Sunday, Sept. 21, Cinemakids plans to host a special program showcasing work produced in several youth media organizations.
The event is free and open to the public.
Cinemakids is part of CinemaTexas, an annual local film festival showcasing short films from around the world.
