DALLAS -- A poll conducted from Sunday through Thursday shows Republican statewide candidates generally with an edge over Democratic nominees.
The poll for The Dallas Morning News showed:
U.S. Senate: John Cornyn , R, 47 percent; Ron Kirk , D, 37 percent; Undecided 14 percent.
Governor: Rick Perry , R, 50 percent; Tony Sanchez , D, 35 percent: Undecided 14 percent.
Lieutenant Governor: John Sharp , D, 42 percent; David Dewhurst , R, 41 percent; Undecided 16 percent.
Attorney General: Greg Abbott , R, 39 percent; Kirk Watson , D, 33 percent; Undecided 27 percent.
Blum & Weprin Associates, Inc., of New York, interviewed 953 likely voters by telephone. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
The poll showed that no black-Hispanic coalition has come together so far. Kirk is not shown as getting as much of the Hispanic vote as one might have expected.
