A film festival feeling is in the air with all the big movie premieres in Austin starting this weekend. It's no festival, but three premieres in four nights means there's a lot on the plate for film fans.
Fresh off shooting his newest World War II epic, director Quentin
Tarantino is headed back to Austin. Tarantino delivers his "Inglorious Basterds," starring Brad Pitt among others, to a sold out crowd Saturday night at the Ritz.
"I think it's sort of the anti-premiere is what we're offering him," Alamo Drafthouse founder Tim League said.
Tarantino is a Drafthouse regular over the years and said he's not coming for publicity; he's focused on curating the first three films of the night. His new film kicks off an all-night movie marathon that sold out in 45 seconds.
"He's going to hang out with us all night long and watch movies and at that time he's just another movie nerd in the audience like the rest of us," League said.
The scene shifts to Paramount Theater Sunday afternoon where
Austin film maker Robert Rodriguez premieres his newest kid adventure "Shorts." Film goers might still be able to walk up and buy a ticket but don't plan on driving by afterwards because carnival rides are setting up right in the middle of Congress Avenue.
The "Shorts" premiere is also a fund-raiser for The Thoughtful House, a local non-profit dedicated to autism research and community outreach. Proceeds could give them a much needed financial shot in the arm.

"It is absolutely wonderful because -- as you say -- things are tough at the moment," Thoughtful House founder, Dr. Andy Wakefield said.
The big finish comes Tuesday night with the world premiere of
"Extract."
It's the newest workplace comedy from Austin filmmaker Mike Judge, most famous for directing "Office Space", creating the "Beavis and Butthead" cartoons, and "King of Hill."
Actor Jason Bateman will walk the red carpet along with others.
It caps off a premiere trifecta that brings some showbiz excitement to the dog days of summer.
Tickets are sold out for the Alamo Drathouse movie marathon with Tarantino. But, tickets are still available for the "Shorts" and "Extract" premieres at Paramount Theater.
