If a blockbuster action movie is hitting the big screen, then a blockbuster video game with the same title is right behind. Such is the case with "G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra."
While the game includes some key scenes from the movie, developers say the overall story picks up where the movie leaves off.
Whether players plan to see the movie or not, old school G.I. Joe fans will get the chance to play as a dozen of the good guys, and more and more Cobra characters as the game goes on. More are unlocked as more progress is made.
This game is a straight-up shoot-em-up, with each character possessing his own set of skills and his own special attack which can be used for a few seconds when a special attack gauge is full. It can be played as a single player or a local co-op, meaning not online. Another player can play along, as long as he or she is in the room.
"G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" is available on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii for between $50 and $60.

It's only fair to counterbalance a high intensity G.I. Joe game with one geared a bit toward young lady gamers. Such is one of Ubisoft's new Style Lab titles aimed at tween girls. This one, "Style Lab: Jewelry Design" for the Nintendo DSI handheld lets users not only design their own jewelry from scratch but also run a virtual boutique, selling that jewelry and interacting with customers.
What can really appeal to tween girls is that they can have the opportunity to actually wear the jewelry they make in the game.
"What you're going to be able to do is design custom jewelry pieces, necklace, bracelets and earrings, right in the game," Karen Louie, of Ubisoft, said. "You'll be able to upload them to our Web site, and then order them from the manufacturer and they'll be mailed to your door."
The price for "Style Lab Jewelry Design" has not yet been set, and future Fifth Avenue gem merchants will have to wait until November.
