They've got a face only a mother -- or pug owner -- could love. Put a pug in costume, though, and you create an altogether different sort of beauty.
Pugs and their people gathered Saturday for the fifth annual Great PUGkin Fest held in West Travis County.
The costume competition is the highlight of the day, and while it just looks like fun and games, don't let these sweet faces fool you. The competition is fierce even if the competitors aren't.
"They are incredible companion animals. I will never, ever not have a pug. I got my first one thinking it was cute and then you just become attached and they actually end up being your shadows basically," Rebekah Saltsman of the Austin Pug Club said.
