Catie Beck is News 8 Austin's Capitol reporter. When the Texas Legislature is in session you will find her there chasing down lawmakers on important issues.
Catie earned an undergraduate degree in communications from Fordham University in New York City. She then headed to Washington D.C. to complete her master's in broadcast journalism at American University.
After graduation, Catie moved to northern Minnesota to get her start in television. Besides learning to endure temperatures at 40 below zero, Catie learned how to enterprise compelling news stories. She also got the chance to cover stories in the national spotlight when a deadly school shooting occurred on a nearby Indian reservation and political controversy erupted over a gay marriage ban at the State Capitol.
Catie then headed to Gainesville, Florida, to escape the frozen lakes and live in a more tropical climate, which also allowed her to cover tropical storms. While in Gainesville, Catie was also able to break a story about a public official with prescription drug addiction. She also did investigative stories on child pornography and a business owner with a racial bias toward customers.
In her spare time, Catie keeps active with running on Lady Bird Lake and Bikram yoga. She loves exploring Austin and caring for her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Pita. She also keeps in touch with her wonderful and supportive family who live in her hometown of Annapolis, Maryland.
The City of Austin plans to have the Nueces Bike Boulevard opened by late spring. The boulevard would be a multi-use path where car traffic is discouraged. How do you feel about this?
I think this is a great idea, we need more roads like this
