HOUSTON -- The Dutch oven is on its way to becoming Texas' official state cooking implement.
Legislators previously grappled with weighty issues of bluebonnets, pecan trees, lightning whelks, jalapeno peppers and chuck wagons being official Texas items.
Now the Senate has adopted a resolution to designate as a state symbol the three-legged cast-iron pot that's a mainstay of chuck wagon cooking.
The resolution is backed by San Jacinto Sons Chapter of the Lone Star Dutch Oven Society.
The resolution states in part that the Dutch oven is “a welcome and dependable fixture at campfires across the Lone Star State.”
