SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The U.S. Army reports a Fort Hood soldier from Puerto Rico died in Iraq when a roadside bomb exploded as his vehicle passed.
An Army spokesman said Spc. Jose A. Rivera Serrano died in the attack Monday in Baghdad.
He became the 23rd person from the U.S. Caribbean territory to die in action in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Rivera was assigned to B Company of the 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Hood. His parents live in Mayaguez on Puerto Rico's west coast.
Rivera will be buried in Puerto Rico.
