Austin police say they'll launch their own investigation into the crash that killed a department commander.
Shauna Jacobson and her husband died Saturday in a motorcycle crash.
The couple ran their bike off the road on Highway 71 near Bee Creek, which is not normally in the Austin Police Department's jurisdiction.
The department is getting involved because of the possibility alcohol was involved in the crash.
The Department of Public Safety has already said the couple was traveling too fast.
Now investigators say the Jacobson's had spent the evening at a bar just a few miles from where they crashed.
Jacobson's husband, Kurt, a retired APD detective, was driving the motorcycle.
For now, Travis County deputies and the Department of Public Safety are investigating the crash.
Investigators are waiting on toxicology reports to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The APD internal investigation will start next week.
