Satellite radio providers worry about bootleggers
LOS ANGELES -- Looks like we've come full-circle when it comes to music recordings.
Back in the day, people used to make tapes from their favorite radio stations and no one made a peep.
But now, there's technology available to enable computer users record their satellite and Internet radio broadcasts. And you can bet that won't sit well with the recording industry. As was the case with mp3s the focus is on the quality of the recordings.
Since the Internet and satellite broadcasts are digital quality, there's concern that people will be able to make technically superior copies of music without paying for it.
At issue is a program called Timetrax -- which is developed to record broadcasts from XM Satellite Radio's PCR receiver.
