Round Rock's school district elected two people to the RRISD school board. Diana Maldonado was reelected to Place 2 with 79 percent of the vote over Karl Falken.
Place 7 voters chose Pat Abbott with 65 percent of the vote over Edmund Buckley, who received 29 percent, and Konrad Bouffard, who earned seven percent.
All it took was a big lead over their opponents, and that's exactly what Maldonado and newcomer Abbott got on election day. Early on the pair for Place 2 and 7 had the majority of the vote. Now they have a heavy plate. They must approve the budget, evaluate a new superintendent and try to pass a new bond, smaller than last years failed $349 million bond.
"I've always focused on education and doing what's right for the district. And that has been the most from day one. And I continue to advocate that. So, I'm really happy about the voter turnout," Maldonado said.

"Huge honor, and I'm really excited to serve, because this is going to be such a good time for Round Rock and the growth that it's having. And the education process we're going to have to continue to grow up," Abbott said.
Maldonado said she's anxious to continue serving on the school board and has a laundry list of projects the board must tackle immediately.
"We'll be doing the budget, which is what we're working on right now. So, we have the budget, we have the bond, we'll be doing superintendent evaluations," she said.
As a former principal and assistant superintendent at RRISD, Abbott said his experience will guide him.
"I've been in budgets which we're going to have to do by the end of the summer. We're doing a bond issue in November, and I did four of those in the district before. So, the ramp up time is not going to be very long," he said.
Both Abbott and Maldonado will be sworn in at the next school board meeting on May 18.
