All good things lead back to Austin. That holds true for Crestina Chavez.
She was born and raised in the Lone Star State's capital. Her family moved to Pearland (a Houston suburb) when she was 12. She later returned to Austin to attend the University of Texas where she graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism in 2000.
She landed her first job in Tri-Cities, Wash. at KNDU (NBC). Two years later she started at News 8 Austin as a reporter, the same station where she interned just years before.
By January 2006, Crestina was named News 8 Austin's evening anchor.
Working at News 8 has given Crestina the opportunity to cover the gamut of news stories: from the space shuttle Columbia explosion to the College World Series in Omaha to UT's road to the Rose Bowl and a National Championship title.
Crestina always knew she wanted to write. As a child, she kept several journals. Despite her father's wish for her to become a doctor, she followed her dreams and pursued news reporting. She's found the job she always wanted -- blending her love for writing and her passion to communicate as events rewrite history.
In her spare time, Crestina loves to play golf, go fishing, watch live music and travel. During football season, you'll find her stuck to a television, watching her favorite team, the Tennessee Titans.
Though she has poured plenty of time and energy into her work, News 8 Austin has given back to her ten-fold in return. That's where she met here wonderful husband Chris Hardie, News 8 Austin photographer. The two were married on Oct. 1, 2005.
