Paul Brown brings more than two decades worth of journalism experience to Central Texas viewers as News 8 Austin’s midday anchor. Paul started his newsgathering experience in Austin as a graduate of the University of Texas and today serves the community both in and out of the newsroom.

Paul's journalism career spans more than two decades. Before starting at News 8 Austin, a 24-hour local cable news channel in Austin, TX, in 2003, he was news director and anchor at KTXS-TV in Abilene, TX. During his 10 years there, he helped lead his news staff to numerous awards including a four-year span when his colleagues won a record 65 Texas Associated Press Broadcasters awards.

Over the years, judges with the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters have also recognized Paul as one of the state’s top anchors and reporters. His reporting for the News 8 documentary on the 40th anniversary of the University of Texas tower shooting earned him a Lone Star Emmy nomination, two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio-Television News Directors Association, and two TAPB honors.

Political reporting is a staple of Paul’s career. As a reporter at WROC-TV in Rochester, NY, he interviewed presidential candidate Bill Clinton, former vice presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro, and New York Governor Mario Cuomo. He also sat down with Texas gubernatorial candidate Ann Richards in 1990. In 2006, he interviewed every candidate running for Texas governor. And during the most recent presidential campaign, he had the chance to interview Hillary Clinton via satellite. Paul has also moderated numerous forums featuring state and local candidates.

Service to his profession and the community remains an important aspect of Paul’s life. He has served as chairman of the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters, and has judged numerous journalism competitions. He also serves on the board for the non-profit groups, Texas Hearing and Service Dogs and Neighborhood Longhorns Program.

Paul has a B.S. in Radio-TV-Film from the University of Texas at Austin. He received his master’s degree from UT’s School of Journalism, where he is currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program.

When not at work or school, Paul spends time with his wife and three sons, who are busy with their own elementary, high school, and college activities.
