Jeff Power was born in San Antonio in the arms of two women – he’s a triplet. After graduating from Klein Forest High School in Houston, he got his radio and television degree from The University of Houston.
Since his high school years, Jeff knew sports broadcasting was the field for him. He began an internship in college at KPRC (NBC) in Houston. While he was there he worked under notable names such as Spencer Tillman, Lisa Malosky and Bart Enis. He also was involved with the PBS station in Houston (KUHT) where he anchored sports for a segment named, “Video Workshop.”
Jeff quickly landed a job at KZTV (CBS) in Corpus Christi as a weekend sports anchor and weekday sports reporter. From there he joined a sports production company in Dallas where he got the opportunity to travel all over the country with the Texas Rangers. He reported for a show named “High School Extra” and “Southwest Conference.” He had another chance to cover pro sports when he joined the sports’ team at KNWS, a 24-hour cable news channel in Houston. Finally, Jeff landed in Austin. He was the weekend sports anchor at KEYE (CBS) for three-and-a-half years before joining the News 8 Austin team as sports director.
Jeff and his wife Carla had their first child, Sophia, in December 2000. Their son, Charles Alexander, was born on Nov. 12, 2004.
Besides his huge love for Houston sports, he enjoys outdoor activities such as fishing, boating and spending time on the water.
Don’t be surprised if you catch "Power" at a karaoke bar. He loves to sing and even plays the guitar.
