Victor Diaz specializes in two of his favorite topics: show business and sports.

As a film reporter, he covers everything from local productions to Hollywood blockbusters and specialty films that populate Austin's art houses. He's also News 8's film critic and Austin's only member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association. In 2009, Victor was honored by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters for his specialty beat covering the film industry.

Victor has more than a decade of experience covering Central Texas news, sports, and entertainment.

You'll also see Victor exploring on-line culture in "Websightings," reporting sports, and filling in as a news anchor and traffic reporter.

Victor is a lifelong Texan, graduating from Round Rock High School and Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University – San Marcos).

In college, Victor joked that he majored in sporting events because he traveled to hundreds of basketball, hockey, and football games across the country. His most memorable moments include being in New York City for the San Antonio Spurs’ first championship in 1999, the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia and the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He also became a fitness enthusiast and still remembers a lot about aerobics.

Victor’s passion for sports is what drew him into the media as a sports and entertainment writer for the Daily University Star and Galaxy Magazine in San Marcos. Victor also worked at KTSW-FM as a radio news reporter/anchor and as a TV news reporter/anchor for "Bobcat Update" in the Mass Communication department at TSU – San Marcos.

After serving as the Star's sports editor, he became a correspondent for the Austin American-Statesman covering the Austin Ice Bats hockey team.

Victor joined News 8 Austin in January 2002 and has also served as an assignment editor, producer and photographer.

He thinks making television in Austin is the greatest job in the world, but being a pro beach volleyball player could be a close second.

Victor is an animal lover and a fitness enthusiast so when he's not at work you probably see him out and about with Maze, his trusty Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

The City of Austin plans to have the Nueces Bike Boulevard opened by late spring. The boulevard would be a multi-use path where car traffic is discouraged. How do you feel about this?
I think this is a great idea, we need more roads like this
I think it needs more public input
